Included with your backpack of items are 2 beanie babies, which are affectionately called Shoeless and Bark.

Bark is a Newfoundland pupppy. A Newfoundland dog, Seaman, did accompany Lewis and the Corps of Discovery throughout their journey. He was very beneficial in protecting the men, gathering food, and was treated as an equal when food was scarce.
At the end of the journey, we have no mention of what happened to him. My favorite legend is that he was given to John Colter and returned to the west.

Shoeless is a black and white kitten. A kitten is no where mentioned in the journey of the Corps of Discovery. But he is a part of this project to keep Bark company.

Shoeless and Bark are on a quest of discovery and will spend a week finding out about your school, your students, and your community!

I invite you and your class to enjoy their presence and incorporate them into your daily schedule. If you wish, students may take them home for a night and record what activities they participated in.

Shoeless and Bark are very interested in EVERY aspect of your classroom and your students!

You are also invited to take a class picture with Shoeless and Bark and then include it in the photo album provided in the backpack. Perhaps you might wish to explore your school or community and have the picture taken at a significant spot?? Perhaps you might wish the picture to be taken with someone famous in your community? Your possibilities are endless.

If you have more suggestions of what you class could with Shoeless and Bark, please email them to me!
Thank you!
